Harmattan Rain follows three generations of women as they cope with family, love and life. A few years before Ghana's independence, Lizzie-Achiaa's lover disappears. Intent on finding him, she runs away from home. Akua Afriyie, Lizzie-Achiaa's first daughter, strikes out on her own as a single parent in a country rocked by successive coups. Her daughter, Sugri grows up overprotected. She leaves home for university in New York, where she learns that sometimes one can have too much freedom. In the end, the secrets parents keep from their children eventually catch up with them.

Sister Attah you put your foot in this book girl!!! I was reading 5 other books at the time I received your book and I had to put those on hold because your novel just grabbed me!!! I loved how it merged the political dynamics of Ghana during independence and beyond, with the quotidian experiences of everyday life. As an avid reader of referential works about our people, sometimes you forget that it's people who live daily life under these conditions, and life doesn't just stand still. The character development was amazing, I think all of us Africans around the world have family members like the characters in the novel. Also, as a person who entered university in 1996, the setting of that time period brought memories of my college years as well (except we were more down with 2pac than Biggie down here in Texas...LOL). The ending blew my mind!!! I just didn't see it coming, mind you I average about 30 books read per year, and you just throw me for a total surprise. You are good sister!! Can't wait to read your next novel, which I will be getting soon. Will be posting this book on my website so people can purchase as well, conscientization101.com. Armah and Per Ankh know how to spot real talent.
